A recent post of Matt Cutts concerning the possibility to report link spam such as hidden links, paid links and links in WordPress themes has definitely made a huge buzz in entire SEO community. We couldn’t omit the point either as it appears to be quite significant and controversial.

Posting a series of articles covering such link-building techniques as hidden links, sponsored links in WordPress themes and paid links he’s finalized with the post describing the way to report these links to Google:

- Sign in to Google’s webmaster console and use the authenticated spam report form, then include the word “paidlink” (all one word) in the text area of the spam report. If you use the authenticated form, you’ll need to sign in with a Google Account, but your report will carry more weight.
- Use the unauthenticated spam report form and make sure to include the word “paidlink” (all one word) in the text area of the spam report.

Both link-buyers and link-sellers can be reported.

However, despite of Google’s good intentions of refining their search the results of such an “innovation” can be unpredictable. Sure certain consequences will depend on the methods used by Google to define punish paid links but the idea on the whole seems to be not quite tolerant. Greatly reminds me the Soviet Union system where one could be put in jail for being informed against
