Quite often we come across age division of users of some products or services. No wonder, in general each age group is considered to have different occupations and passions.
Of late internet has also been effected with that sort of division and now we can observe what do people of different age commonly looking for in the internet. Though the information listed is based on the UK statistics I bet that in the whole it’s the same for USA.
According to Nielsen//NetRatings networking and gaming brands like Bebo, Piczo and Nickelodeon dominate among kids and teenagers. That doesn’t surprise me as this statistics reflects most important things for kid and teenage age group. Recognizing myself in that age with the only difference that my child passions were not brought to the Internet as it was not so widely spread.
Greatest portion of twenty-something people is more likely to be found on such web-giants as BSkyB, PayPal, Amazon, eBay and Google. This age group is likely to form a principal mass, a main stream of Internet users and visit most popular sites.
Many of thirty-something people seem to be concerned about money (whether it is saving or spending). At least statistics says that sites on relevant to money topics are more frequently attended by people of that age group. Try to ask your thirty-something friend which site he last visited and the answer is most likely to be Barclays, Argos, Halifax or eBay.
Forty- something age group cannot be defined as adherents of some strict direction. You can find wide variety of brands (Premium TV, Abbey National, Genes Reunited, Demon) among the sites visited be that age group. Alex Burmaster, European Internet Analyst at Nielsen//NetRatings says in that connection the following:
The brands where you are most likely to find forty-somethings represent a wide variety of sectors from football to finance, travel to retail and family to health. This age group, therefore, represents one of the great attributes of the Internet in how it helps people meet all manner of needs they have in their daily lives more effectively.
People over fifty still have the same interests in the Internet as forty- something people but more strongly tend to use Internet as a source of information. Whether they are comparing prices or looking for weather info one thing is clear- over 50’s are looking for the information about the surrounding world and possibilities to make their lives easier. Most popular brands among this age group is IncrediMail, uSwitch, OneTel and Ebookers.
I wonder why not to make that kind of statistics for SEO and SEM industry? For example what is most typical age of the client and which project does he orders. Or on the contrary, to get to know the age groups of Search Engine Optimization specialists? What do you think, how the results will look like?
Every site owner dreams of bringing more traffic to his site as well as achieving better search engine visibility. That undoubtedly is the top goal for everyone - but what is the first step to capture it? Sure, it’s common knowledge any noticeable traffic begins with search engine indexation. Unless a search engine indexes your site it will not show up in the results, this is because the search engine doesn’t even “know” about the site’s existence. So, how can you get your site listed in search engine? The question is rather simple still rises some disputes in SEO community.
Sometimes for the site to be indexed it’s enough to have a link from an indexed site so that search engine spider follows the link and indexes the pages from your site. However, in some cases it’s better not to pin your hopes on this method and to submit a site (manually or automatically) to search engines and directories.
Site submission - is the actual process by which a site is directly submitted to a search engine for inclusion into their database. My personal opinion is that automatic submission will never surpass manual submission but as a matter of fact you are to choose.
Prior preparation of the site is recommended but not crucial when submitting to search engine. On the contrary, when you are going to submit your site to the directory that is search engines powered by human beings then you should consider writing a capacious description to your site based on 3-4 most efficient terms for your site (don’t spare time to find the best keywords for your site with any keyword tool rather then guessing at these).
I consider the most logical is to submit to major free search engines like Google, Yahoo, DMOZ first and then to continue with smaller directories (like 01webdirectory.com, a1directorysearch.com, linkdiscovery.com, NationalDirectory.com and so on).
If you can afford to shell out $300 I recommend paid inclusion to Yahoo Directory. It will not only allow your page to be indexed within 72 hours and re-indexed every 48 hours but also will give weight to the site in the “eyes” of other search engines.
And one more thing- in order to make your first step to huge traffic correctly I advice you to read and follow all the instructions when submitting your site. Good luck!
